Fancy running your own business in one of our market-leading brands? Well, with our Retail Graduate Scheme, you could do just that! We’re always looking for driven and passionate graduates with retail or hospitality experience to become one of our future star Managers.
Find out from current Retail Grad, Sasha, what it’s like to take part in the scheme.
‘Work hard in Mitchells and Butlers and you will be rewarded’
Whilst studying at University, Sasha worked part-time in a pub business and progressed to supervisory level. As her passion for hospitality grew, she decided to develop her knowledge within the sector further and apply for the Retail Graduate Scheme. Sasha’s first appointment on the scheme with Premium Country Pubs at the Deer Park in Leeds but since then she moved to another Premium Country Pub in the Midlands.
Retail Grads drive their own progression over a period of 18-24 months, gaining the leadership skills needed to manage a team and run a successful business. “Once I received my first project on the scheme, I knew that in order to make my mark I had to give it my all. This was social media posting for the business, so I subsequently put together a structured social media calendar for my General Manager, whilst also detailing how this would help drive sales.
My investment of time and effort was noticed by my Area Manager who realised I was worth investing time and training on. This resulted in a great relationship between the two of us, with him playing a huge part in my development”, says Retail grad Sasha who has been on the scheme since October 2016.
As part of the scheme, grads attend workshops to develop their managerial skills, whilst also being an opportunity to network with other grads. “Workshops create a solid support network for those currently on the Retail Scheme who all share similar ambitions to progress within the company. Meeting with likeminded grads is very beneficial, as we are all going through the same process and it’s useful to hear some great advice that can really help your development on the scheme”, Sasha says.
Sasha’s advice for future Retail Grads? - “Learn to embrace every opportunity even if it’s a little daunting as this will help progress your management skills further- work hard in Mitchells and Butlers and you will be rewarded!”.
Interested in applying for the scheme? Make sure you read Recruitment Manager, Susan Bayley’s top tips to ensure you’re fully prepared for your interview:
We recruit all year round for our Retail Graduate scheme and have businesses nationwide, so we look to place you within a business that is suitable to develop your skills. This may require some location flexibility within a defined geographic area, therefore the ability to drive would be desirable, but not always essential
See below the dates we run assessment centres. If you wish to attend a date please apply at least 4 weeks before, ideally 6 weeks to guarantee your place. This then allows your application to be processed and the 1st stage video interview to be completed and screened.
