As another apprenticeship week comes to a close, we’re reflecting on the successful week our Apprenticeship Team have had, rewarding our apprentices and promoting our apprenticeship options.
Here’s a glimpse at what our Team got up to during National Apprenticeship Week, 5-9thMarch 2018:
It’s important to us at Mitchells and Butlers to recognise the dedication of our apprentices, so what better way to celebrate their achievements than to take a trip to Parliament! Our hard-working apprentices got to meet their MPs and Shadow Minister for Higher Education, Gordon Marsden to receive their well-deserved awards!
“Visiting Parliament was most definitely one of my top highlights of the week. It was amazing to see our apprentices being awarded for their dedication and passion to their apprenticeships. We’re so proud of Ben Shaw who received an 'Outstanding Achievement' award and Jordan, Leo, Ryan and Niall who all received their 'Certificates of Recognition'. They were all a great representation of our business and a credit to themselves,” says Lauren Carroll, Vocational Learning and Attraction Manager.
In addition, the apprentices took the event as a chance to emphasise the importance of apprenticeships for the hospitality industry to their local MPs. “The visit to Parliament allowed them all to talk with their MPs about their personal experiences as an apprentice at Mitchells and Butlers, while also discussing the benefits that apprenticeships have on the hospitality industry,” Lauren continues.
Our involvement with Lifetime’s #BetterBecause campaign was also a fantastic success and a great opportunity to showcase why apprenticeships are beneficial for our business, pubs/restaurants and apprentices. Lifetime visited our pubs and restaurants, equipped with their #BetterBecause boards and invited our employees to write about why they are better because of apprenticeships. “It was amazing to see everyone getting involved and recognising the impact apprentices have within our business,” says Lauren.
Careers fairs are a fantastic opportunity for the Mitchells and Butlers Apprenticeship Team to meet school leavers who are thinking about becoming an apprentice. “I loved meeting all the talented and engaged young people who are interested in undertaking a Hospitality Apprenticeships. It’s great to be able to offer them my advice and answer their questions, while also advising which of our apprenticeships might be best for them to have successful career within the hospitality sector,” Lauren says.
This year, we joined forces with other industry-leading companies during National Apprenticeship Week, who are equally passionate about promoting and celebrating apprenticeships within the hospitality industry.
During the week, it was announced that a steering group would be formed, made up of ourselves and other top hospitality industry employers such as Greene King, Marston’s, KFC and Pizza Express. Attending the first hospitality summit of its kind, we collectively pledged to work together to change the perception of apprenticeships within the sector. “Working together will hopefully help us shine a light on the hospitality industry for young people and showcasing the breadth of opportunities and careers is the best way for us to build a successful and talent rich pipeline.” Says Paul Capper, Mitchells and Butlers Vocational Learning Manager.
