IT Application Support Apprentice

Here at Mitchells & Butlers, we are partnering with Lifetime Education and are excited to announce that we have an exceptional opportunity for a self-motivated and enthusiastic Apprentice to kick start their IT career by immersing themselves in a FTSE 250 company and joining our Award-Winning IT Team.

Working from our Birmingham City Centre head office and over the course of the 2 years, you will have the opportunity to learn more about the varied roles within IT, and ultimately support your development towards securing a specialised role within our IT team. During your Apprenticeship, you will develop your passion for technology and problem solving and grow your knowledge base to deliver the key responsibilities of an Application Support Analyst.

On top of receiving a ‘Information Communication Technician’ Level 3 Qualification by the end of your 2 years with us, you will also get to complete two industry recognised courses: Microsoft Power Platform Fundamentals and Microsoft 365 Fundamentals.

What will I be doing?

Whilst you are on your Apprenticeship scheme you will be:

  • Supporting our various applications, troubleshooting support incidents alongside internal support teams and our 3rd parties.
  • Own and track the delivery of software updates, patches, and service improvements, liaising with the Release and Change Manager as required.
  • Creating and maintaining documentation for the various applications within M&B.
  • Developing knowledge of the systems and technologies deployed within M&B and embedding that knowledge in Service Now to assist our 1st Line support teams.


At the end of your Apprenticeship, some of the key skills/responsibilities that you will have developed and learnt along your journey are:

  • Ability to provide 3rd Line Support level
  • Be able to prioritise workload and take ownership of incidents through to resolution
  • A good understanding of IT operations, including incident management, problem management, test, change & release management, infrastructure, networks, security and projects


 What do I need?

  • At least five GCSEs (or equivalent) at Level 4/Grade C or above including Maths, English and either IT or Science.
  • Ideally, you will have either a minimum of two A levels (or equivalent) or Level 3 BTEC
  • Demonstrable problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Be self-motivated and able to set and work to own deadlines
  • Be committed and enthusiastic to both working and undertaking your apprenticeship learning
  • Be able to prioritise workload and take ownership of calls through to resolution
  • Be able to work accurately under pressure
  • Have very strong customer facing communication skills both verbal and written
  • Have excellent problem-solving skills
  • Be able to work well in a team, but also be capable of working on their own and taking the initiative when needed
  • Willing to work within a shift pattern basis covering core business hours
  • Ability to learn new technologies and concepts quickly and accurately
  • Basic understanding of PC hardware set-up and configuration
