Are you passionate about people and have a love for the food and drinks industry? If so, we may have just found the perfect role for you!

There is no doubting the role of a hospitality manager is rewarding. Whether it’s creating magical moments for your guests or helping your team develop, you are sure to make an impact on the lives of those around you!

At Mitchells & Butlers, we are passionate about our people and believe in rewarding our teams for their hard work and dedication. As a manager at M&B you are sure to feel rewarded by the range of benefits available to you. From yearly bonuses, free shares, employer pension contributions up to 3% to 33% discount for you and up to 5 guests on food and drink at any of our 14 brands, you are sure to feel rewarded in your role.

You do not have to take my word for it! General Managers Vickie and Chris who have both worked their way up through the ranks at M&B are both passionate believers that their job as an M&B hospitality manager is rewarding.

We spoke to Vickie and Chris to find out more about what they believe the most rewarding aspects of being a hospitality manager at M&B are.

Name: Vickie

Role: General Manager

Business: Plough and Harrow

When did you join M&B and why?

Before I joined M&B I was working long unsociable hours, with shifts extending into the early hours of the morning. With a growing family, I was in search for a better work-life balance, something that M&B was able to provide me.

I have always been passionate about hospitality, and I wanted to make this my career. One of the other key reasons I chose to join M&B was the progression opportunities which were available to me.

How long have you been manager at M&B?

I joined M&B in 2017 as an Assistant Manager and have since progressed to deputy and recently into my role as General manager.

With the support of my Regional Business Manager, I have completed a range of courses including in-house progressions programmes and levels 3,4 and 5 apprenticeship in hospitality management. All which have helped me to progress into my current role as a General Manager.

What do you enjoy most about your hospitality management role at M&B?

I love that every day presents a new challenge! This not only makes my job exciting but also enables me to work flexibly around my home life. As a mom, it is important to me that I have a job which works around my children’s lives.

What would you say is the most rewarding thing about being a hospitality manager at M&B?

Being able to impact people’s lives on a daily basis is one of the most rewarding parts of my job. Making those moments special, whether it be a birthday, or a wake is what drives me daily.

In terms of my team, I get a great sense of reward from being able to develop my team members to develop through their careers with M&B. It is great to support those who have a real passion and drive for hospitality to achieve their career goals!

Name: Christopher

Role: General Manager

Business: Miller & Carter Herne Bay

When did you join M&B and why?

I returned to M&B in August 2018 following a few years with other companies. I had always regretted leaving M&B in the first place as it was with Toby Carvery that I got my first hospitality role and trained to Shift Supervisor level. I even passed my APLH and got my personal license funded by the company while I was there. After I left, I’d spent a long time trying to find my ‘home’ and it was when my local Harvester was announced as converting to Miller & Carter that I knew I needed to return. There was just that ‘something’ about the brand that made me know I wanted to work there!

How long have you been a manager at M&B?

I’ve been a General Manager for less than a year so far, but it’s been a fantastic journey from Assistant Manager through Deputy Manager, to get here over the last 4 years.

What do you enjoy most about your hospitality management role at M&B?

I love that every day is different! I never know what the next hour is going to throw my way, let alone days or weeks.

What would you say is the most rewarding thing about being a hospitality manager at M&B?

For me, I think it has to be seeing my guests leave with a smile on their faces. I love to know that we have made a positive impact on their day. Working for Miller and Carter , a lot of my guests are here to celebrate a special occasion and I love to know that we’ve helped them to create a lasting memory.

How has M&B encouraged you to develop?

I’ve always been encouraged to develop my skills along the way and see where that can take me, but M&B has definitely allowed me to explore where I want to go and what I needed to do to get there. I was lucky to have been working under a fantastic General Manager myself, who really encouraged me to progress.

Are you an inspiring leader considering a hospitality management role?

As Vickie and Chris have both explained, a job as a hospitality manager is a rewarding one! We believe that the key to a successful business is passionate people who feel fulfilled and rewarded.

Through your passion, experience and leadership, you’ll inspire your teams to grow and develop, serve up great guest experiences and smash targets each and every day.
