As the year draws to a close, we’re looking back with pride on another incredible year for our teams serving up success across the UK. From our award-winning apprentices to our very own HR Director being recognised for her fantastic achievements, we’ve rounded up some of our 2018 shining stars.
Toby Carvery apprentice Joe Buck has risen to new heights after being named the national ‘Rising Star’ at the National Apprenticeship Service Awards. Joe, who had passed through two rounds of regional finals, has a keen drive to succeed. Joe has already taken on three apprenticeships in three years and he doesn’t plan to stop. Continuing to create the recipe for success, Joe has already begun working on the Level 3 Hospitality Supervisor (Food & Beverage) course this year – equivalent to an A-Level qualification.

Joining Mitchells & Butlers 35 years ago, Tony has played a huge part in the kitchens of lots of our pubs and restaurants across the UK and has now made the jump to Kitchen Skills Trainer. Pursuing his passion to developing people, Tony has already made a massive impact in training and developing kitchen teams across the North-West region.

Nicky joined Mitchells & Butlers through the General Manager Designate programme in 2014 and is now leading the way as a General Manager at Miller & Carter Sherwood Forest. After 20 years in the retail sector, Nicky decided she wanted a fresh challenge. Her hard work and dedication led to her successfully completing the General Manager Designate programme’s intensive 12-week training course, applying her experience in the retail sector to leading our pubs and restaurants.
We caught up with Nicky to find out more about the General Manager Designate programme.
This year Damian completed his Level 2 Commis Chef apprenticeship, won our chef apprenticeship competition, MABster chef for his braised beef cheek dish, and now his dish has been selected to appear on the Browns Restaurants 2019 specials menu. This year has been really successful for Damian, and he is continuing his success since joining Mitchells & Butlers as Accredited Kitchen Manager at Browns Restaurants Windsor.

Monika completed her marketing graduate scheme early after securing a role as Assistant Marketing Manager for Nicholson’s Pubs. After joining the marketing graduate scheme last year, Monika helped launch a new Miller & Carter mobile app for guests, whilst working with suppliers and restaurant General Managers to support our marketing teams throughout the World Cup and Royal Wedding.

HR Director Susan Martindale was recognised in the Top 100 Most Influential event by HR Magazine in September for her fantastic contribution to the industry. Susan joined Mitchells & Butlers in 2012, and has since been committed to developing the apprenticeships, youth and digital learning elements of the overarching people strategy.
By recently completing the Mitchells & Butlers HR graduate scheme, Kathryn features as one of our shining stars after going on to landing her dream job as a Training Partner for our restaurant brands. Continuing to make use of our personal development opportunities, Kathryn is progressing towards her Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and The Training Foundation’s TAP certificates.
