  Our ‘Loving Hospitality’ collaboration with Greene King and Marston’s is about educating and inspiring the next generation of hospitality leaders.      " 3 The hospitality and tourism industry is the fourth largest industry in the UK, employing over 2 million people. From inventing breath-taking menus to creating unforgettable experiences for guests, making sure that we recruit the best and investing in young people is hugely important to Mitchells & Butlers. From our apprenticeship schemes through to our University graduate programme, we are dedicated to opening doors for young talent, providing a genuine alternative to academic study and a real path to a long-term career in hospitality.But with so many opportunities available to young people, hospitality can often get overlooked. That’s why for the upcoming National Apprenticeship Shows, we’re teaming up with fellow pub and restaurant chains Greene King and Marston’s to make sure our message is heard by future talent, loud and clear. Collectively, we’re exhibiting as ‘Loving Hospitality’ highlighting the best in hospitality apprenticeships to young people and their influencers across the UK.Speaking of the partnership, our Director of Learning and Talent Development Jan Smallbone spoke to us about why she believes it’s important to take this collective approach;“The ‘Loving Hospitality’ collaboration is about making sure as representatives of the hospitality industry rather than individual brands, we both educate and inspire career advisors and young people about the benefits working in our industry can bring. We want to work together to showcase how an apprenticeship in hospitality is rewarding, flexible and can be the right first steps for so many young people looking to make their mark.“Too often there can be preconceptions surrounding apprenticeships from those looking to support young people through the tricky twists and turns of future career choices. But with a hospitality apprenticeships, there’s  many opportunities for success! For example, through our hospitality management apprenticeships, there is the opportunity for apprentices to progress from apprentice to Assistant Manager in two and a half years!“Breaking the stigma around hospitality apprenticeships is so important in tackling the skills shortages challenge facing the industry, as we aim to develop, train and champion the future leaders of hospitality. Our mix also means our talent can get exposure to different skills, then decide which role best suits their career aspirations. For those looking to seize the opportunity, Mitchells & Butlers will provide the support and time flexibility for employees to take on an apprenticeship.      14 Vocational Learning Attraction Manager Lauren Carroll has recently taken on this opportunity, enrolling onto the CIPD Level 5 HR apprenticeships with Crosby Management Training, earlier this year. Lauren is always working to give young people the opportunity to shine, placing them in a whole host of apprenticeships across the UK, so she knew the time was right to work towards her own apprenticeship.The CIPD Level 5 HR apprenticeship aims to further develop HR professionals who are leading on people initiatives in larger organisations. As part of the undergraduate degree equivalent course, Lauren has not only been #ReachingNewHeights in her HR career but Lauren’s put on her walking boots for a trip to Snowdonia National Park. Providing a valuable team-building experience and opportunities to develop resilience, leadership and decision making, Lauren gave us the rundown of why apprenticeships are perfect for those looking to take their career to the next level.“I know the power of apprenticeships for those in entry level roles, but I’m also a massive advocate of apprenticeships for those further along their career journey. For me, I’ve been with Mitchells & Butlers for nearly three years and when the opportunity arose, I jumped at the chance to develop myself with the CIPD Level 5 HR apprenticeship.“This apprenticeship gives me the opportunity to work towards a broad HR apprenticeship, having a behind-the-scenes view of areas of the business I had never previously seen. As a broad HR knowledge and the ability to influence senior team members, is a key skill that is so valuable as you progress through your career journey, this apprenticeship has become even more important to my career.“The Snowdonia trip with Crosby Management Training was amazing and allowed me to put into practice some of the skills I’d learnt so far whilst learning some new ones, in a setting away from the office. I was with a group of fantastic people and I would definitely recommend for anybody to take up the opportunity for an away day as part of their apprenticeship. With no mobile phones and just each other, it was great to share experiences and stories with one another whilst also being able to step outside the office.
