Meet James, James joined M&B in Summer 2017. James joined Vintage Inns as a Retail Business Manager, with responsibility for fourteen country style dining businesses stretching across the South Coast.

Joining Mitchells & Butlers from Greene King, we’re really keen to get James to tell you about his journey, and tell you if the grass really is greener on the other side!

Q. James, tell us a little about yourself, your career history and your work motto.

I trained at TGIs following my Hospitality Degree; then started at Luminar Leisure as a GM within the late night sector. I became a very successful operator which led to my Operational Role at Luminar. I then moved to Spirit / Greene King as an Area Managers and now I’m with M&B as an RBM with Vintage Inns!

Q. How are you finding working in a new Company?

Great. The brand and the people are what makes this company. I am also very lucky to have some fantastic and beautiful pubs in my area.

Q. Describe what you enjoyed about the recruitment process with M&B?

The recruitment process is what I’d anticipated with structured interviews and presentations. I thoroughly enjoyed visiting the pubs and seeing the opportunities available to me!

Q. How did you find your induction with us, and tell us your most memorable moment during this time?

My induction was thorough, and it was great to put on chef whites and get involved in the Kitchen, as this is what I’d trained to do at college many years ago!

Q. What would you have described as your biggest hesitation moving companies, and how do you feel you overcame this, along with any support from M&B?

Simply the unknown. I knew quite a few people at the company that reassured me that the work ethic and energy at the company was one of the best in the sector.

Q. What would be your advice, to a hospitality colleague looking to make a move?

M&B have so many great brands and are a real people person company, that I would highly recommend.

Q. What would you tell us has been the biggest change for you moving companies?

Learning the different systems and working within a tighter brand than I’m used to.

Q. Tell us how you’ve engaged your new team and geared them up for a successful Christmas period?

Being my first Christmas at the company, I wanted to ensure we did well. I spent a lot of time in each pub over the three months prior to Christmas, ensuring that they had everything well planned and organised for this period. I am lucky that my GMs are all highly motivated and wanted to do well for the area. I also had a great team building day in London where we all relaxed and got to know each other!

Q. Finally, tell us the best piece of feedback you’ve had since joining us?

I received a bottle of Champagne from my Manager for being a great newcomer. It was great to have this feedback!

So, there you have it, James is thoroughly enjoying his new role, he has integrated really well to the Company, brand and culture, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds.
