Like structure? You'll love working in an M&B kitchen
There are lots of reasons why people choose a chef career. Chefs are made for high energy environments - they love being surrounded by food and enjoy a job that doesn't have them sitting at a desk all day. But why do chefs choose to come and work at Mitchells & Butlers? Well, a few reasons spring to mind, one being that they like the structure of an M&B kitchen.
If you like structure, here's why an M&B kitchen could be right up your street.
There's a clear kitchen career path
Any kitchen has a hierarchy, meaning that ambitious chefs always have their sights set on the next step up. Take James, who joined us as a chef and has since worked his way up to an Accredited Kitchen Manager role. He took advantage of the many career stepping stones we offer in our kitchen, but he didn't get to where he is by chance. He put in the hard work and explains that there are key traits that you need to progress your kitchen career.
Then there are people like Anthony who made the jump from back of house to front of house and explains the skills he learnt in the kitchen have made him an even better manager today. So, if you've got an appetite for success, there's no limit to where you could take your kitchen career with us.
Everyone knows their role in the kitchen
The hierarchy of a kitchen doesn't exist so that senior chefs can dish out orders to newbies, oh no, that's one of the top myths about working in the kitchen. Clear roles mean that everyone turns up to work and knows what they've got to do, whether they’re sous chefs, kitchen manager, kitchen leads or breakfast chefs. This means everyone can rock up for work, crack on with their jobs and make sure our guests have a memorable experience with us.
We have tried and tested processes that we follow
We've been serving with pride since 1898 - that's a lot of Toby Carvery roasts and Stonehouse pizzas that we've dished up. All these years of welcoming guests through our doors mean we know how to keep our kitchens running smoothly and in shipshape. We've got a lot of processes that we follow in the kitchen, like our prep and par system. They make sure our chefs work in a safe environment, reduce food waste and plate up perfection with every order.
But that doesn't stop us from having fun together
Our kitchen assistants, chefs and kitchen managers don't come to work in an M&B kitchen just because they run like well-oiled machines. They want to be a part of our brilliant teams, where everyone is welcomed and made to feel a part of the family. After all, what would be if we didn't have diversity within our teams?
