Why is it a great time to look for a job in Birmingham?
The moment the Second City has been waiting for is fast approaching. Birmingham is set to host the 2022 Commonwealth Games for the first time, putting us right up there with previous hosting cities, like Vancouver, Melbourne and Edinburgh.
What's the first word that springs to our minds? Pride. The second? Opportunities. Knowing that athletes and fans from around the world will be flying in this summer fills us with excitement. Not only will they get to experience all the things we love about Birmingham, but this will be a great opportunity for us to show everyone what we're all about. The past few years have been tough for local businesses, and we're all ready for a big celebration.
Why was Birmingham chosen?
We're taking you back to 2017 (ah, weren't those simpler times?). This year stands out for us Brummies because we were officially named hosts of the 2022 international multi-sport event, defeating Liverpool's bid. (Sorry guys!)
While we've come a long way since the days when we were known to be a manufacturing powerhouse, we’re proud of our history because it's made us who we are. The Games will be a chance for us to show that we really are as diverse and vibrant as we're said to be.
Our city is gearing up to put on a show like no other and exhibit the best of Britain and make the country proud. It's an exciting time for all the people and businesses in the West Midlands area.
New job opportunities for the region
The UK has a longstanding legacy of hosting unforgettable sporting events and as the second city of the UK, Birmingham is gearing up to uphold that legacy for the next generation.
A major focus of the Games will be the regeneration and rejuvenation of our bustling metropolitan borough. A £25 million investment package was announced, with the aim of continuing the regeneration of our city centre so that it's ready to wow when our visitors come flocking. This will go a long way in helping to create 35,000 jobs for those directly involved in the Games.
And what does more visitors also mean? A lot more people who are on the hunt to experience a classic carvery, sit in a truly British pub and explore all the other delights we have to offer.
And job opportunities with Mitchells & Butlers
Our city goes by a few names, but the best of all is simply Birmingham - the place where it all began for Mitchells & Butlers - so you can imagine why it has a special place in our hearts.
The power of inclusivity will be another key theme of this year's event. And we can't wait to welcome all athletes, organisers, volunteers and fans with open arms. Actually, what we really want to do is welcome them by making sure they have a memorable experience. To do this, we need you!
