4 reasons why you're never too old to do an apprenticeship
Apprenticeships were once just for 16-24 year olds so when you think of the programme, chances are you immediately think of young adults who are fresh out of school. But not long ago the maximum age limit was scrapped and just last year the number of over 25s who applied to apprenticeships rose to 47%. We’re here to tell you that at M&B the programme is for people of all backgrounds and experience levels.
And that’s why we’re dishing up four reasons why you’re never too old to do an apprenticeship.
It’s not about age, it’s about your attitude
In case we haven’t made it clear – apprenticeships aren't just for the young. We believe in equal opportunities! Imagine diving into a new field, learning the ropes, all whilst earning a living. That's just one of the many reasons you'll love being an apprentice with M&B.
So, what's your story? Bounced around industries, searching for your hidden talent? Craving an exciting career challenge? Well, your background won't stop you from grabbing that amazing apprenticeship. Forget about age labels. We care about your teamwork, can-do attitude, and thirst for learning. Age is just a number to us. We value your potential, passion, and drive. Don't let anyone say it’s too late to try something new. Embrace the chance to level up, gain real-world experience, and unlock new career possibilities. Ready for the M&B apprenticeship adventure? If you’re ready to serve up some success, a bar and waiting apprenticeship could be for you, or apply for our chef apprenticeships and show us you know your way around a kitchen.
You can rediscover your passion for learning
If you've been out of education for some time or feel stuck in old routines at your job, it's natural to feel like your brain muscles could use some flexing. But guess what? Hospitality apprenticeships are the perfect opportunity to reignite your passion for learning.
Here's the deal: you've got some serious time-management skills from your real-world experience, making it easier to balance shifts and coursework. Let's face it, sitting in a classroom isn't everyone's cup of tea. If you're anything like our apprentice Hannah, you know how frustrating traditional learning can be. That's why an apprenticeship programme might be your ultimate ticket. It puts you in the driver's seat, allowing you to take charge of how and when you learn.
You’ll bring a unique outlook
Teams with greater age diversity see an increase in productivity and 79% of employers agree that older workers support knowledge and skills sharing – that’s some impressive gains but how does diversity make a dream team? Well, people from different backgrounds have their own way of doing things – a unique outlook. Your experience could help many others perform better and boost productivity indirectly. Those extra years may be just what an employer is looking for to add a little diversity to the team, so don’t let it put you off from applying! After all, they do say that with age comes wisdom.
Your communication skills are invaluable
Communication is one of the top transferrable skills that employers look out for when searching for the next member of their team. So, you’re a great talker and could give any salesperson a run for their money, but when it comes to communication it’s also about being a great listener. Yes, some people are naturals when it comes to communication but for most people, it’s a skill that comes with time. The great news for you is that those extra years can make you more qualified for an apprenticeship programme – and if you think you’re ready for the challenge, our management apprenticeships are the perfect opportunity to show you’re a born leader.
Fancy taking on a new challenge?
Some of our most talented and ambitious team members join M&B through an apprenticeship programme and we’re looking for more fun and driven people to join the M&B team.

It's time to embrace the thrill of rediscovering your love for learning through an apprenticeship. Trust us, you've got what it takes to make the most of this opportunity. Get ready to take control and unleash your potential like never before! Apply for hospitality apprenticeships.
