Ben Bishop joined the Vintage Inns team as a Bar and Waiting Apprentice, gaining himself a Hospitality Team Member Level 2.

Wondering what exactly is a Bar and Waiting Apprenticeship? As the friendly face our guests remember, you'll inject your personality every moment you're with our guests so that they love to come back time and time again. You’ll gain the skills you need to jump-start your hospitality career whilst also gaining a professional qualification.

If you're interested in finding out more about a Bar and Waiting Apprenticeship, read about Ben's experience below:

What do you like best about working for M&B?

“I like M&B and all the brands within it. There is a clear career progression.”

What attracted you to a M&B Bar and Waiting Apprenticeship?

“It was a chance to get a qualification while doing the job I was planning to do anyway.”

The Hospitality Team Member Level 2 Apprenticeship and qualification can give you the skills and know-how to kickstart a fun and rewarding career in the hospitality industry.

What has been your highlight of the Apprenticeship experience?

“I learnt a lot more about the industry as a whole. My trainer was always there to support me personally and help me out with balancing my job responsibilities with coursework.”

At M&B, our managers and team are here to support you every step of the way. From day one of your Hospitality Team Member Level 2 Apprenticeship, you'll have a dedicated team cheering you on and providing guidance.

We'll be there to help you navigate challenges, celebrate your successes, and ensure you have everything you need to thrive not just during your Apprenticeship, but throughout your entire career with us.

What is your favourite part of your job role?

“I like how social work can be.”

When you ask someone who works in hospitality what they love about their jobs, we can say with confidence that they’ll talk about the people that they work with; that you get a level of comradery that is unrivalled in any other profession and working with people you’re closest to can make work a hoot.

Has the Apprenticeship made you view your job role differently?

“Yes. The coaching from my trainer made me see this as a career rather than a job.”

At M&B, you'll find endless opportunities for growth and development so you can turn your job into a career.

Were there any challenges in your role, if you how did you overcome them?

“I found the IT side of the course a challenge but this is where my manager and trainer have been the hugest help!”

Would you recommend an Apprenticeship to your team or friends?

“Definitely. It looks great on your CV. It can open your eyes. And you get a qualification while earning.”

Writing up your CV? We’ve got you covered with the dos and don’ts of writing a hospitality CV

What would you tell someone who is considering starting a M&B Apprenticeship?

“Just listen up and be prepared to take all the information on board. The trainers know a lot so the best thing you can do is respect that and learn as much as you can from them.”

What is your next career goal?

“I want to become a General Manager at some point in the future.”
