And this isn’t just your average grad scheme! Working for one the UK’s most famous restaurant and pub brands, including All Bar One, Browns, Toby Carvery, Miller and Carter and Harvester means that there is never a dull moment! Although the work is challenging, we believe it is important for all of our Graduates to have fun, feel valued, enjoy what they do and get rewarded and recognised along the way.
In this blog you will find out about a couple of our talented former Corporate Graduates who have cemented a career here at M&B and find out about their experiences on the graduate scheme.

What made you choose to apply for the M&B Grad Scheme?
When I saw the M&B Grad Scheme pop up on one of the grad job websites, I instantly recognised most of the brand names – All Bar One, Miller & Carter and Toby Carvery, even though I wasn’t aware of Mitchells & Butlers as a parent company. I had positive past experiences in M&B outlets and thought ‘How fun would a job in marketing there be?!’. After reading a little about the rotations within the grad scheme and the breadth of experience this would provide me with – it seemed like a no brainer to apply.
What was the best thing about the M&B Grad Scheme?
The movement between departments, combined with real responsibility straight away – made the grad scheme work well for someone like me who wants to get stuck in pretty quickly. Instantly I was given projects with the potential to drive huge sales, with budget responsibility and freedom of creative direction, all whilst being supported by a great line manager. Rotating between different departments meant that when I finished the grad scheme, I’d experienced a number of brands and teams, so I felt perfectly placed to apply for a role.
How did your time on the M&B Grad Scheme shape your career?
The M&B grad scheme was a brilliant start to my career. I learnt skills needed to be a great Assistant Marketing Manager, which I hope I’ve gone on to become! As well as real responsibility, you are instantly in a position to begin networking, whether this is finding a mentor, speaking with previous grads, learning from experts from various departments or mingling with fellow marketeers at conferences and socials. These contacts have helped me insurmountably in furthering my career at M&B.
What advice would you give a student considering joining M&B on their grad scheme?
My no. 1 piece of advice would be (although super cliché) to go for it! Although this is a bit cheesy, starting at M&B unlocked so many skills, as well as a whole side of my personality. I’ve become so much more confident, outgoing & astute and I only have M&B and the brilliant people I’ve worked with to thank for that.
What is your role within M&B now?
I’m currently a couple of months into a new role as Assistant Marketing Manager for All Bar One, and I’m loving it! This really is my dream role at MAB because I see so much opportunity for the brand. I’m looking after all thing’s food & digital as well as lots of other projects.

What made you choose to apply for the M&B Grad Scheme?
I'd worked in hospitality while at university - I met some great friends, and really enjoyed the buzz of student pubs but also the quieter 'regulars' shifts. I got an internship in HR at my uni after graduating and loved that it was all about people - so finding a grad scheme that incorporated both was really exciting.
What was the best thing about the M&B Grad Scheme?
The variety - I was involved in projects across a number of different teams which really exposed me to the different parts of HR and set me up for a role after the scheme finished.
How did your time on the M&B Grad Scheme shape your career?
It really set the ground for working in a very people-facing role, and I ended up in various L&D (training) teams for a few years after my scheme building my skills and network.
What advice would you give a student considering joining M&B on their grad scheme?
Spend some time in our bars, restaurants & pubs to get a feel for what we do, and how you/your chosen grad scheme could make an impact on that.
What is your role within M&B now?
Since 2018 I've been in our Reward team - so very different to my previous training roles! I really love it though - I'm involved in managing our benefits, wellbeing strategy and also elements around pay, so there's a lot of variety and it's given me the opportunity to build another new set of skills and explore areas I'm really passionate about.
