Discover a student job that allows you to transfer home for the holidays
Are you moving away to study at university and looking for a job to make some extra cash. We know that it can be a struggle to find a job that fits around both your studies and home life in different cities, that is why we have set up M&B Transferred; a programme that enables our teams to transfer to a business either home or away allowing them to continue work, without the drama of finding a new job.
At Mitchells and Butlers, we have jobs that make balancing university life with work life easy for you. With flexible hours you will have prioritised time for studying and attending lectures. As well as this, you get a staff discount of 33% which you can use on food and drink at any of our restaurants and bars. Whether it’s an award-winning steak from Miller and Carter or a tasty Passionfruit Martini from All Bar One we have you covered.
Want to hear more? We caught up with team member Joe to find out how transferring with M&B helped him to continue working both at home in his local Toby Carvery and a Premium Country Pub in Bristol.
Bar jobs for students moving away to university
Name: Joe
Role: Team Member
When did you join M&B? July 2022
What business did you start at and what location did you move to? Toby Carvery Gravesend, moved to Hole in The Wall Bristol
How did you find it transferring to a different business? It didn’t feel like I was starting a new job because the systems were the same and people had confidence that I already had knowledge. It made it a smoother transition than if I had started a new job.
How did being able to transfer make you feel? More security, because I was moving to a brand-new City, I knew I had a job and didn’t’ have to worry about money. Everyone I lived with found it hard to get a job and some didn’t get one at all. They said how lucky I was to be able to transfer.
What do you enjoy most about your job at M&B? The team, they are relaxed and are firm but fair. Everyone teaches you well and let you know the best ways to do things. The staff nights out are always good too.
What would you say to someone considering a pub job whilst studying? If you struggle with socialising or are moving somewhere with no-one you know then definitely do it because its really social and it’s a great way of making new friends.
The skills you learn at M&B will carry with you for life. From how to correctly approach different audiences to having the right communication to come across as approachable, they are skills that will not go unrecognised when looking for your career.
