Discover exciting temporary summer jobs with M&B: an interview with Isobel
Are you looking for a fun, fulfilling temp summer job that fits around your plans? Look no further than Mitchells & Butlers!
We sat down with Isobel Crisswell, our HR Graduate who started as a summer employee in 2021, to discuss why M&B offers some of the best summer jobs out there.
Tell us what brought you to M&B!
"I started as a Team Member at Badgers Sett for a summer job. Initially, I wanted to earn a bit of extra cash to fund my summer plans during the university break, and I knew hospitality was the sector I wanted to work in.
The job ad felt super convenient and friendly. Plus, the pub was super close to where I live, which made it really comfortable to work in a site I knew and enjoyed."
What was it about a temporary summer job that caught your eye?
"The local convenience was a huge factor – it was just a few minutes’ walk.
The part-time role was appealing because it offered flexibility to fit around my summer plans. This flexibility meant I could go back to university and return during holidays like Easter and Christmas."
What’s the best part about working in a pub over the summer?
"The best parts were the extra cash to support my summer plans and the flexibility to fit work around my schedule.
The pub had a great buzz, especially with its nice, large outdoor area.
It was enjoyable work, and I made friends with other summer team members, so it was great to catch up over the holidays at work.”
You want to have fun, feel valued, enjoy what you do and get rewarded and recognised along the way. That’s what working for us is all about, and much, much more.
What are some perks of working at M&B in the summer?
"The workplace itself is gorgeous, and the 33% employee discount is fantastic. It lets you explore loads of new M&B businesses where you can soak up the summer sun in a beer garden on your days off!
There’s a feeling of fulfillment seeing everyone having a great time in the sun.
I also learned essential life skills, like delivering great customer service, working in a fast-paced environment and of course, how to pull a pint!”
Engaging with guests and their dogs was another highlight. There’s also the opportunity for career progression and potential future seasonal temp jobs."
A summer job at M&B offers a lot of benefits, including flexible hours that fit around your summer plans, a vibrant and enjoyable work environment, and the chance to earn extra cash.
Is there anything you find challenging about working over the summer?
"There’s a misconception that working over the summer means missing out on fun, but I actually had a lot of fun.
The job offered flexibility, so I could still do all the things I wanted to do over the summer while also funding those activities."
Would you recommend a summer job at M&B to anyone out there? If so, why?
"Absolutely. It’s a lot of fun and doesn’t feel like work. The teams are great, and with our Refuel with Us scheme, you can enjoy great food during your shift. The key thing is flexibility, which many of my friends’ jobs didn’t offer. Plus, the pubs are beautiful places to work."
Have you got anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
"Working at M&B set me up for my graduate job. I studied Politics & International Relations at the University of Birmingham and learned about the HR grad scheme while working at M&B.
The scheme appealed to me because of the exposure and variety of the role. It’s a good-sized company with plenty of opportunities to get involved in high-level projects."
