Discover the M&B Finance Graduate Scheme: Where numbers meet hospitality
Think finance is all about spreadsheets and number crunching? Think again. At Mitchells & Butlers (M&B), our Finance Graduate Scheme is where finance meets food, strategy meets service, and every decimal helps shape unforgettable guest experiences.
Sure, we’re known for our pubs and restaurants, but M&B runs on more than great pints and Sunday roasts. Behind every perfectly poured drink is a finance team making smart decisions that keep the business thriving.
What’s the M&B Finance Graduate Scheme all about?
Our three-year Finance Graduate Scheme gives you the chance to explore every corner of M&B’s finance world, from Brand Finance, where you’ll help drive business performance, to Financial Accounts, where you’ll keep our reporting sharp and compliant.
You’ll rotate across different finance teams, gaining hands-on experience and developing a broad skill set that sets you up for a long-term career in the business. Plus, you’ll study towards your CIMA or ACCA qualification, supported by generous study leave, exam time, and a seriously encouraging team.
So, whether your dream is to become a Finance Manager, Commercial Analyst, or something entirely new, this scheme gives you the tools, confidence, and flexibility to find your perfect fit.
Tom’s journey: From Front of House to Finance
Tom studied Accounting at Durham University and spent a year working at a Stonehouse pub, where he first discovered M&B’s finance graduate scheme.
“I liked the idea of working in hospitality,” he says, “because M&B’sa business where you can actually see the impact of your work, unlike consultancy, where you’re often a step removed.”
Since joining, Tom’s completed two placements: one in Digital, focusing on takeaway and promotions, and another within the Premium Brands team, working closely with operations.
He’s also been working towards his CIMA qualification, supported by M&B’s study policy. “We get one day a week at college to focus on studying, and time off for exams too. It’s a really supportive environment.”
Next, Tom’s excited to explore areas like pricing, procurement, property, and insights before choosing a specialism. “Right now, I’m leaning towards a Finance Manager role, but the scheme gives you the flexibility to try different things before committing.”
Baron’s journey: From retail to reporting
Baron studied Business Management and came to M&B with experience in retail management and as an analyst at River Island. When he heard about the Finance Graduate Scheme, he was drawn to M&B’s fast-paced culture and welcoming atmosphere.
His first placement was in Digital Marketing and Data, where he worked on order-at-table reporting and analytics. Later, he joined the Restaurant division to deepen his analytical skills and understand how finance supports business agility in hospitality.
“One of my favourite things about M&B is how approachable everyone is,” he says. “The flexible working setup makes a big difference too, it helps you balance work, study, and life.”
Baron’s proudest moments include:
- Progressing through the CIMA qualification while working full-time
- Supporting key brand-wide reporting projects
- Getting involved in initiatives like Social Bite, which works to end homelessness
His long-term goal? To become a chartered accountant and land a permanent finance role at M&B.
