We have an exciting opportunity for an Azure Data and Integration Engineer to join our award-winning Business Change and Technology team on a permanent basis. Reporting into the Data & Integration Manager you will Design, Build and optimise data and integration solutions to meet the needs of our internal customers using Microsoft Azure Cloud services, Data Bricks, Google Apigee, and our Customer Data Platform where appropriate. You’ll Design, build and optimise pipelines that store code and deploy solutions using Azure DevOps. You will work with our Architecture community to produce roadmaps, strategies and guardrails that align to the business domains in-line with Enterprise Architecture plans and Technology strategy.
This role will involve a mixture of office and home working, with our Head Office based in Birmingham City Centre.

What you’ll be doing as our Azure Data and Integration Engineer…
- Collaborating with the business and technical stakeholders to maximise the value of data and information within Mitchells and Butlers
- Using Mitchells & Butler’s architecture method to lead the identification of potential solutions able to fulfil business requirements and make recommendations to the business based on architecture principles & guidelines.
- Presenting findings & recommendations to IT Architectural Forum, identifying where the proposed solution does not adhere to architecture principles and why.
- Building market & sector knowledge to ensure awareness of potential solutions / solution providers. Share knowledge with other IT teams to enable engagement with the business.
- Working with 3rd party solution providers to support the production of roadmaps for all architecture components within the responsibility of data and integration.
- Maintaining documentation on the current architecture related to Data and integration ensuring changes are reflected in a timely manner.
- Enabling our mission to ingest, store, cleanse, model and transform data for Insights, Machine Learning models, dashboards and reports.
- Bringing to life our strategy to centralise multiple different domains of data and support production of curated data models, reports and dashboards that draw together data from Sales, Labour, Energy, Stock and more.
- Assuring that data is cleansed, mapped, transformed, and otherwise optimised for storage and use according to business and technical requirements.
- Solution design using Microsoft Azure services and other tools.
- The ability to automate tasks and deploy production standard code (with unit testing, continuous integration, versioning etc.)
- Loading transformed data into storage and reporting structures in destinations including data warehouse, high speed indexes, real-time reporting systems and analytics applications.
- Building and managing data pipelines.
- Strong data modelling & data analytics skills.
- Enabling a Lambda Architecture and develop solutions that support fast and slow moving data.
- Making use of coding languages such as Python, SQL, C#, R or PowerShell to develop solutions.
- Working with multiple different file types and formats such as Delta Parquet, JSON, XML, CSV.
- Designing solutions, development and work within a Delta Lake eco-system and architecture
- Implementing security to ensure data can be accessed appropriately based on ACL and or RBAC.
- Ensuring data is catalogued and appropriately labelled according to our Information Classification policy and recorded in our data catalogue.
- Ensuring alignment with GDPR and PCI standards where appropriate.
- Building re-usable datasets that business colleagues can safely and effectively discover and consume.
- Use knowledge of API Management tools and techniques to develop API proxies and make use of out of the box functionality to quickly add value, build composite api’s and enable data consumption

- Good Understanding of data architecture, engineering (including warehousing and transformation) methodologies

- Willingness to learn new technology and technical skills to solve problems and bridge gaps

Qualifications Required…
- Previous experience as an Azure Data Engineer or similar role
- Understanding of software development lifecycle
- Demonstrable understanding of architecture methodologies.
