What it's like working for an award winning IT team
Did you know we have an award winning I.T Team?
We scooped ‘I.T Team of the Year’ in 2019 at the UK I.T Industry Awards. In the same year, David joined the Architecture and Governance area of the team, as a Solution Architect.
We caught up with David to chat about how he is finding working with an award-winning team in hospitality, and how he felt working for M&B during the pandemic.
David, tell us how you felt when you got your job offer?
I had a mixture of feelings when I received the job offer as I had been enjoying a few months off over the summer having left my previous company of 17 years. Although my main feelings were happiness and relief, in truth I was also a little disappointed that my time off was going to come to an end. Little was I to know that Covid and furlough were around the corner!
Talk us through how you found being on flexi furlough throughout the pandemic?
I had only been with M&B for around 6 months when the first lockdown came into force so personally being on furlough on and off for the majority of time until now has felt like a real stop start to my career at M&B. I’m now back working full time from home and looking forward to the office reopening soon. I’ve felt well supported by M&B over the last year and it really feels like things are getting back to normal.
What do you love most about your job as Solution Architect so far?
I think working out a solution that fixes a problem and then implementing it. Unlike when I first started out in IT where individuals would do the analysis, development and testing, it is now very much a team effort so although you are not solely responsible, it is still a satisfying feeling when projects are implemented that benefits the business.
We’d love to know how you spend your time when you're not at work?
When I am not at work there are a few places you might find me……if I am not at home you’ll find me on the football field, on the golf course or in the pub. If I am at home then you’ll find me in the kitchen or in front of the TV. So basically, I am either consuming calories or burning. Perhaps consuming more now that the pubs are open and I can use my 33% employee discount!
Tell us if you would recommend a job in I.T here at M&B?
Over the past year it would have been difficult to have recommended jobs in hospitality, but it is starting to feel very different now. I would recommend an IT job here at M&B now as I expect over the coming months/years a lot of IT change will be coming along and at a fast pace. Some of this will have been the changes shelved during the last 12 months and some new changes to cater for a more digital world within hospitality post Covid.
What do you believe to be the best perk of working for M&B?
The obvious perk for everyone is the 33% discounted food and drink which I thoroughly enjoyed during “Eat Out to Help Out” last August! Now that things are opening back up and we can meet up with family and friends I seem to have become a lot more popular. I wonder why!
