Senior chef Nathan Newitt talks about his experience in the Chef Academy
Are you considering joining the Chefs' Academy? Nathan Newitt did just that!
Having recently completed the course, he achieved Senior chef level 3 qualification at Miller & Carter Steakhouse in Bournemouth, Nathan would recommend the Chefs' Academy to anyone wanting to take their career up a level.
Here's what he thought of the course:
What do you like best about working for M&B?
The variety of brands and flexibility on offer to change what I am doing yet stay in the industry and go anywhere in the country.
What attracted you to a M&B apprenticeship?
I enjoy ongoing learning. I like to challenge myself and learn new skills.
What has been your highlight of the apprenticeship experience?
Cooking at the pride awards!
What is your favourite part of your job role?
Seeing other team members develop. I am always pushing my colleagues to enhance and develop themselves further.
Has the apprenticeship made you view your job role differently?
Yes. I can see the origin of food and how to construct things from scratch.
Were there any challenges in your role, if so how did you overcome them?
Balancing a hectic work week as a head chef along with managing my course. Time management has certainly improved as a result/.
Would you recommend an apprenticeship to your team or friends?
Yes, I already have to at least 7 colleagues.
What would you tell someone who is considering starting a M&B apprenticeship?
Put every bit of effort into it you can. You only get out of it what you put into it.
What is your next career goal?
Kitchen skills trainer.
