What is it like to work at Ember Inns?
Ember Inns is our collection of local pubs often referred to as a home away from home. Think real ales, traditional pub grub and roaring open fires at the heart of local communities.

In this blog, we get to know some of our Ember Inns team who pride themselves in serving up the Nations favourite pub classics including Bar Team Member Josh, Waiting Team member Liam, Head Chef James and Shift Supervisor Lauren, who will all be sharing their experiences.
What is a Bar job like at Ember Inns?
Meet Josh, Ember Inns Bar Team member.
What was your reason for joining The Ember Inns Family?
I was looking for jobs in the area with an environment that helped me build my confidence of talking to people after COVID isolation. This has helped to expand my horizons.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
My favourite thing about my role is different people particularly regulars and the opportunity to throw yourself in any new situations whilst learning to deal with and resolve any issues. I also feel the job role has helped with my organisation skills and time management skills.
What would you say to someone considering joining Ember Inns as Bar Staff?
Go for it - Going in for my first 4-5 hour shift I was nervous - If I could speak to myself last year I'd say - go for it, you will be glad you did.
What is your favourite brand dish?
On the Christmas menu it would have to be the Camembert Cheeseburger.
Who is your dream dinner guest?
Nan who is a lady who recently visited the business on her own and I could tell she wanted to talk. I was at end of my shift, and it was quite so chatted to her. She had so many different things to tell me to reminisce. Sitting down with Nan is always a nice experience for me.
What makes M&B different from other employers?
I love working for Ember Inns – in particular I like the 33% discount I can use at all M&B restaurants and Pubs. My manager brilliant, he ensures shifts work around my University work and is very accommodating. I am really happy here.
What is a waiting job like at Ember Inns?

Joined the business: 2015.
What was your reason for joining The Ember Inns Family?
I joined M&B when I was moving to Birmingham. I wanted to join a big business and I knew that M&B was big in Birmingham. I applied for All Bar One at Birmingham Airport as it was a new opening.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I really enjoy being guest facing and ensuring guest satisfaction. I also like the flexibility of being able to work across multiple brands. I currently work for Ember Inns in the week and Miller & Carter at the weekend when it's nice and busy - I hate standing around!
What would you say to someone considering joining Ember Inns?
Go for it! It is so flexible with shifts, you meet new people all the time, and it’s very sociable.
What is your favourite brand dish? It has to be the Gammon, Egg & Chips.
Who is your dream dinner guest?
Channing Tatum!
What makes M&B different from other employers?
M&B is a structured company with so many different offers that caterers for everyone and for every occasion.

Your reason for joining the Ember Inns Family?
I actually joined Ember Inns as my first job. I never knew what I wanted to do before and have found a company that allows me to develop and progress my career, with loads of opportunities.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I would have to say building and developing my team.
What would you say to someone considering your role?
It is a fantastic career choice with plenty of opportunity to develop! There’s also nothing better than supporting a team and seeing them flourish around you.
What is your favourite brand dish?
The Mixed grill!
Who is your dream dinner guest?
Michael Jordan.
What makes M&B different from other employers?
M&B offer lots of opportunities to progress and develop yourself within the company. You are able to move brands with interchangeable skills and learn new ones! There’s also plenty of opportunities to take on apprenticeships to aid your development and career progression.

What was your Career before joining M&B? I was a hairdresser!
Your reason for joining M&B / your brand I was looking to start a career in hospitality!
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I pride myself on ensuring our guests receive quality service at all times.
What would you say to someone considering your role?
Definitely go for it, it’s a great and easy way to progress in a career in hospitality. You will never be without help from others.
What is your favourite brand dish?
Bacon and mushroom Carbonara.
Who is your dream dinner guest?
Tom Hardy
