Mitchells & Butlers - IT, Birmingham, B3 1JP
We have an exciting opportunity for an Enterprise AI Solution Architect to join our team on an initial 6 month fixed term contract, with opportunities for extensions. We are looking for a pragmatic, commercially aware Enterprise AI Solution Architect to lead the technical discovery and architectural definition of a new enterprise AI capability.
Working as the technical counterpart to the Product Manager, you will turn prioritised use cases into a target architecture, technical option recommendation, proof-of-concept approach and phased delivery roadmap. You must bring strong solution architecture skills across data, integration, cloud, security and generative AI, and communicate clearly with senior stakeholders.
In this role you will define a secure, reusable and scalable architecture enabling AI assistants and agents to access trusted organisational knowledge, data, systems, tools and workflows, with governance built in by design.
This is a hybrid working role based out of our head office in Central Birmingham.
You’ll be rewarded with:
- 33% discount across all M&B brands.
- 20% Friends & Family discount for up to five people.
- Option to buy up to two additional weeks of holiday.
- Matched pension contributions (up to 1.5x your contribution).
- Private healthcare and dental plan.
- Cycle to Work and wellbeing schemes.
- 26 days annual leave plus bank holidays.
- Hybrid working and flexible approach.
What you’ll be doing in this Enterprise AI Solution Architect role:
- Translate prioritised business use cases into architecture options, data flows, trust boundaries and non-functional requirements.
- Assess the knowledge, data, API, system and workflow landscape, including quality, ownership, permissions and technical constraints.
- Define reusable patterns for knowledge ingestion, retrieval, RAG, MCP or equivalent tool integration, model access and agent orchestration.
- Design identity, security, privacy, governance, monitoring, audit, human oversight and operational controls with relevant specialist teams.
- Lead technical build, buy and partner assessment, covering interoperability, residency, licensing, cost, scalability, supportability and lock-in.
- Define and assure proof-of-concept architecture and success criteria, present recommendations through M&B architecture governance and jointly develop the phased implementation roadmap.
What you will be delivering:
- Current-state architecture and technical gap assessment.
- Target and reference architecture, including key diagrams, data flows, trust boundaries and transition states.
- Enterprise AI architecture principles, reusable patterns, guardrails and non-functional requirements.
- Security, identity, privacy, governance and monitoring architecture.
- Service and operating model covering ownership, support, observability, change control and lifecycle management.
- Technical build vs buy vs partner assessment, including risks, costs, dependencies and resourcing evidence.
- Architectures, assurance findings and recommendations for priority proofs of concept.
- Phased implementation roadmap, architecture decision record and handover pack for delivery teams.
- Knowledge transfer to M&B Architecture, Engineering, Data, Cyber Security and IT Operations teams.
What skills you will need to bring to this Enterprise AI Solution Architect role:
- At least five years' experience in architecture roles is essential
- Strong solution architecture experience and credible depth in data and integration
- Recent experience defining or delivering enterprise generative AI, AI assistant, agent-based or AI platform capabilities is required
- An understanding of LLMs, RAG, knowledge retrieval and grounding, agent and tool-calling patterns, APIs, cloud, identity, security and monitoring
- Experience with MCP or comparable interoperability patterns is desirable
