Competitive Salary fixed term contract
  1. Full Time

Location

Mitchells & Butlers - IT, Birmingham, B3 1JP

We're looking for an experienced Power Platform & AI Engineer to join our award-winning Technology team on a 12-month fixed term contract. Reporting to the Application Support Manager, you'll play a key role in designing, developing, supporting and enhancing Microsoft 365, Power Platform and AI-powered business solutions that help drive efficiency across Mitchells & Butlers.

Working within our Microsoft 365 Development team, you'll take ownership of solutions throughout their operational lifecycle, with a particular focus on building, maintaining and supporting AI agents and intelligent automation using Microsoft 365 Copilot, Copilot Studio and Microsoft Foundry. You'll combine technical expertise with a strong service mindset, ensuring business-critical applications, workflows and reporting solutions remain secure, supportable and deliver real value.

You'll work closely with both business and technical stakeholders to create governed applications, workflow automation and AI-enabled solutions that improve colleague experience and operational efficiency. Alongside delivering new capabilities, you'll provide reliable operational support across the Microsoft 365 estate, resolving incidents, driving adoption and helping build sustainable internal capability that supports M&B's ongoing digital transformation.

Based at our Birmingham City Centre Head Office, this role offers a flexible hybrid working approach.

You’ll be rewarded with:

  • 33% discount across all M&B brands.
  • 20% Friends & Family discount for up to five people.
  • Option to buy up to two additional weeks of holiday.
  • Matched pension contributions (up to 1.5x your contribution).
  • Private healthcare and dental plan.
  • Cycle to Work and wellbeing schemes.
  • 26 days annual leave plus bank holidays.
  • Hybrid working and flexible approach.

What you’ll be doing in this Power Platform & AI Engineer role

  • Design, build, configure, deploy and enhance governed Power Platform and AI-enabled solutions, including agents created through Microsoft 365 Copilot, Copilot Studio and Microsoft Foundry, within the guardrails ensuring they meet agreed business, technical, security and support requirements.
  • Provide hands-on operational support for Microsoft 365 and the organisation’s agent estate, managing incidents and service requests through the ticket queue, meeting agreed service levels, and monitoring, maintaining and resolving issues affecting Microsoft 365 Copilot, Copilot Studio, Microsoft Foundry, Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI, SharePoint, Teams and related services.
  • Support the continuity and performance of key operational solutions by monitoring services, investigating failed workflows, refresh failures, access issues and capacity constraints, and coordinating resolution with developers, platform owners, vendors and service teams.
  • Manage agent and solution configuration, environments, connections, knowledge sources, permissions and deployments in line with platform standards and change controls, while developing reusable components, workflows and integration patterns that improve quality, maintainability and delivery speed.
  • Maintain solution documentation, technical designs, support procedures and knowledge articles, and receive consultant or developer handovers with the source assets, configuration knowledge, test evidence and operating practices needed for sustainable support.
  • Identify and deliver approved BAU improvements that reduce manual effort, improve resilience and enhance business processes, reports and application usability, maintaining an engineering and service improvement backlog and escalating changes beyond BAU scope for separate approval and funding.
  • Engineer using traditional and low-code AI prototypes and production-ready agents, selecting the appropriate Microsoft 365 Copilot, Copilot Studio or Microsoft Foundry approach and assessing feasibility, data readiness, integration, security and support requirements, while contributing build, run, licensing and support estimates to mini business cases.
  • Create and execute technical, regression and user acceptance testing, resolve defects, maintain appropriate evidence, and deliver controlled releases, configuration changes and updates through agreed development, test and production environments.
  • Apply standards for security, identity, data access, data loss prevention, integrations and responsible AI across the agent lifecycle, troubleshooting connections between agents, applications, knowledge sources, Power Platform and Microsoft 365 services, and escalating governance or compliance concerns.
  • Analyse ticket trends, problem records, solution adoption, usage, costs and benefits to prioritise engineering and service improvements.
  • Guide Power Users and makers to follow Centre of Excellence standards, reusable patterns and safe development practices.
  • Work with architects, developers, service teams and vendors to maintain scalable, resilient and supportable solutions aligned with M&B architecture and platform standards.

What you’ll need to bring to this Power Platform & AI Engineer role

  • Experience engineering and supporting business applications, solutions, reporting products and automated workflows in an operational environment.
  • Practical technical knowledge of Power Platform, Microsoft 365 and AI-enabled solutions, including:

    2. Power Automate cloud flows, workflow monitoring and fault resolution
    3. Power BI reports, semantic models, gateways, refreshes, permissions and issue resolution
    4. Microsoft 365 administration and support across services such as SharePoint, Teams and related productivity tools
    5. Dataverse, connectors, APIs, data sources and integration standards
    6. Hands-on experience using Microsoft 365 Copilot, Copilot Studio and Microsoft Foundry to design, build, test, deploy, monitor, maintain and support secure, governed agents across the business
    7. Environment management, solutions, deployment pipelines and application lifecycle management
    8. Platform security, identity, permissions, data loss prevention and responsible AI governance
    9. Application testing, source control principles, release management and technical documentation

  • Ability to translate business needs into secure, maintainable technical solutions and guide Power Users and makers.
  • Strong planning, documentation and collaboration skills, including effective technical and operational handovers.
  • Understanding of solution adoption, licensing, capacity, costs, supportability and measurable business benefits.
