OUR RECRUITMENT EXPERIENCE
Applying for a new job is an exciting time, but we know it also comes with nerves... which is why we want to set you up for success and prepare you for what to expect.
If you have already applied or are thinking about applying to a bar, waiting, chef or kitchen assistant role position with us, have a look at what the recruitment experience might look like for you.
APPLICATION
A simple application process, designed to be quick & easy, even when applying from a mobile phone.
INTERVIEW
A sneak peak into what the job looks like and gives us an opportunity to get to know you better.
FEEDBACK
We’re committed to offering feedback to support your development and progression.
Online Application
Application
We want to make our application process simple, especially when applying via your mobile phone. All we ask is for you to fill out a quick application form where you can share your details, experience, availability, and any reasonable adjustments you may need - no CV needed!
Next Steps
Your application will be reviewed by the manager of the pub or restaurant you have applied to, who will contact you within 7 days. You’ll receive a phone or email invitation to a face‑to‑face interview at the businsess if successful.
Top Tips
Add as much detail as possible about any previous experience and skills as well as your availability, so the manager has enough information about you and can decide on your application.
INTERVIEW
If your application is successful, you’ll be invited to a face‑to‑face interview with the manager at the business.
The interview will last around an hour and gives us the chance to learn more about you, what makes it special and what your potential role could look like with us.
INTERVIEW EXPERIENCE
The interview experience will involve:
Job Preview - Business tour and a skills-based activity to gain understanding of our brand offer and your interaction with our guests and team.
Behavioural based interview questions - an opportunity for you to share real-life examples that demonstrate your experience and the qualities and skills we’re looking for.
M&B Team Member questions
During your interview, you will be asked behavioural-based questions such as:
- Can you tell me about a time you tried something new or took yourself out of your comfort zone? What was it like?
- Tell me about a time when you noticed a better way of doing something at work? What did you suggest or change?
- Tell me about a time things didn’t quite go as expected. What did you do to sort it out?
For any roles involving supervision responsibilities, you will be asked further questions such as:
- Have you ever helped someone who was struggling or learning something new? How did you support them?
- Can you tell me about a time you led a team to achieve a goal or a target?
TOP TIPS
Let your personality shine: Hospitality is a people-first industry, so let your energy and personality shine. We notice genuine enthusiasm, be yourself and show your passion.
Prepare great examples for your interview: Be ready with two or three stories that highlight how you've supported other people, solved problems, or gone the extra mile. Use clear examples to show patience, teamwork, and initiative, even from non-hospitality roles.
Show you’re open to learning and working as a team: High-volume environments move fast, so be open to change, variety and teamwork. Show flexibility across shifts, tasks and learning new ways of working. A positive, can-do attitude matters just as much as experience.
FEEDBACK
We recognise the time and effort involved in applying for our roles and aim to offer constructive feedback to support learning and future opportunities, regardless of outcome.
.
We truly believe that feedback is a gift, and we want to thank you for taking the time to meet with us. Your effort matters, and we want you to feel valued throughout every part of your experience with us.
Snippet Heading
Our aim is that every candidate hears back from the manager at the business they applied to, within 7 days of their interview, with an update on the outcome and the option to receive feedback. If you haven’t heard from us by then, please feel free to get in touch with the site directly — we want to make sure you get the information you need.
Snippet Heading
Top tip: Let feedback support your journey If you’re not successful this time, we hope the feedback you receive helps you grow and feel even more confident for future opportunities, whether with M&B or elsewhere.
And if you do join us, your feedback can be a great starting point for conversations with your new line manager as you settle in.
