What are the top 5 benefits of a graduate scheme?
So you’re sizing up graduate scheme? Whether you’ve earned your degree or you’re close to finishing, it’s time to think about how you’ll show the world what you’re made of.
We couldn’t think of a better way to kick start your career after university, than with an exciting grad job that will pave the way for endless opportunities. This is why we offer a range of graduate programmes, including Area Management, IT, Human Resources, Finance, Marketing and Property. They vary from one to three years, and the best part is that they’re personally tailored to you and your development plan.
We know that deciding what route to go down after uni is a big choice to make. To help you out, we’ve put together the top five benefits of graduate schemes.
Stack up skills for a successful career
After uni, there’s no doubt you’re brimming with knowledge, and you just can’t wait to put it all into practice. A grad scheme lets you do just that through placements, whilst broadening your technical skills through development workshops. So you’ll finish the programme knowing that you’ve got all the skills you need to go out into the working world and be a success.
Gain real-world experience working at a large company
Having a household name on your CV is a wise career move, especially if you have less experience and need your future job applications to stand out. Experience working for a large company that everyone knows will certainly do that, especially if they’ve got a good reputation.
That said, we hope that anyone selected for a graduate scheme at M&B will choose to stay on and build their career with us. We make sure to offer our teams equal opportunities and access to learning and development, so you can be sure that the only way is up for our graduates!
Also, all our retail graduates and corporate graduates get to spend some time in our pubs and restaurants during their induction, so you get a feel for what it means to be part of the team, right from the beginning.
Achieve something you can be proud of
You should think of a graduate scheme as your chance to show what you can do. Whether it’s applying what you learnt at university or learning to navigate the working world, like Lily has done.
Lily completed an Operations Graduate scheme at M&B, and she’s right to say the programme isn’t a piece of cake. But, your buddy, line manager and placement manager will all be on hand to help you right the way through.
“It is a very fun, rewarding scheme however it is challenging and does definitely test you (but in a good way!) It is where no day is the same as the next, both from a location side but also a task side and one that you will definitely not get bored of!”
Team up and grow with fellow graduates
For our teams, work isn’t just about turning up to get the job done. We all want to have fun along the way. We employ lots of grads throughout the business, so you’ll get to work closely with people who are at a similar stage of life as you. And what we mean by that is, you’ll pick up a work bestie or two.
Earn a competitive graduate salary
We want our graduates to love every moment and to take home a good salary. All our programmes offer a starting salary of £30,000 (£23,000 for undergraduate schemes).
And the job perks don’t stop there. Here are a few other things we offer our colleagues to help with their financial wellbeing:
● A company car for HR, Marketing, Area Management and Property graduates
● Opportunities for flexible working, to fit around the other important things in life
● 33% employee discount for you and 5 friends, across all of our businesses
● 20% friends and family discount which you can gift to 5 friends or family members of choice
