Toby Carvery is the home of the roast, famous across the UK for our large yorkie puds, famous gravy and not to mention our passionate friendly chefs and team members!

Our team members really make every visit personal; we love having fun and we truly care about our guests and each other. Being part of our family you are bound to make some great memories of your own.

In this blog, we get to know members of our Toby team; Chef Brogan and Kitchen Assistant Phil who will all be sharing their experiences as a member of the Toby Carvery family.

What is a Kitchen Assistant job like at Toby Carvery?

Meet Phil, Kitchen Assistant

Joined the business: 2017

Past experience:  Prior to being a Kitchen Assistant at Toby Carvery I was a Baker.

What do you enjoy most about your role? I like that my role allows me to be flexible around my children and I also enjoy the benefits that are available to me.

What would you say to someone considering your role? If you want to pursue a career in hospitality, I would defiantly recommend you join the Toby family.

What is your favourite M&B dish? It would have to be a Miller & Carter steak, especially when using my 33% discount.

Who is your dream dinner guest? Ricky Gervais

What makes M&B different from other employers? As I've worked for M&B since I was 17 I do not have much experience working or other employers however I have experienced and witnessed a lot of progression since being here.

What is a Chef job like at Toby Carvery?

Meet Brogan, Toby Carvery Chef

Joined the business: April 2019

Past experience- I joined Toby when I was 18 and in sixth form so it has been my first real job. Previously I had been a volunteer sports coach for various teams within Essex and also helped in the family gardening business.

What’s the best thing about working for Toby Carvery and why did you join?

Toby Carvery was the first company who offered me an interview and subsequently a job. As someone who was nervous and starting not only a new job but my first, the company made everything so simple and easily understandable and I immediately felt welcomed by everyone.

What do you enjoy most about your role as a chef? I originally started off my Toby journey as a front of house team member however I found the job that the chefs do interesting and exciting, so I began training as a back of house team member. All sections of the kitchen bring their own challenges but overcoming those and knowing that you are doing a good job is massively rewarding.

What would you say to someone considering working as a Chef at Toby? I would tell anyone that the job role is challenging at times, however in my experience I have always been surrounded by the best support team who will do anything to help you overcome any situation you may face.

What is your favourite Toby Carvery dish? I absolutely love the homemade brownie that we sell.

Who is your dream dinner guest?

My dream dinner guest would be David Attenborough, I wouldn't even need to talk I could just listen to his life story.

What makes M&B different from other employers? The level of training that M&B provide from the start is second to none. The online training is extremely educational and the in-house training helps you to get to know your team members while learning the ins and outs of the job role.

Does a job at the famous Toby Carvery sound like a bit of you?

We're always on the lookout for more fun-loving people to join our Toby Carvery family. Whether you are looking to find a bar and waiting job within a vibrant team, cook up a storm in one of our kitchens or lead a team to success, we have a wide variety of roles available!
